West Virginia’s compulsory attendance statute sets forth the requirements for homeschooled students and the person providing instruction. It is important to understand the compulsory attendance law and become familiar with its requirements before you begin homeschooling. Basically, the law requires you to notify the county school board or superintendent of your intent to homeschool, teach reading, language, mathematics, science and social studies, and to provide the results of an annual academic assessment.
